Drinking diet Coke instead of normal Coke is not healthier. Nor are eating candies ‘rich in Vitamin C’.
Contrary to popular belief, the best replacements for junk food are not the diet versions of junk food – it is whole food.
Here are some whole food replacements for junk food that are just as tasty, but without the artificial sweeteners and additives.
1. Dried Cranberries instead of Fruit Chews

Just cause the packaging says it is ‘packed with Vitamin C’ doesn’t mean it’s a healthier alternative. It may contain just as much artificial additives as normal sweets.
Dried cranberries are a tasty replacement. Health benefits include cancer-fighting antioxidants, antibiotic properties and plenty of Vitamin C.
2. Dark Chocolate instead of Milk Chocolate Candies

Dark chocolate has a more bitter taste compared to milk chocolates. However, it allows you to satisfy your sweet tooth with fewer processed ingredients.
3. Granola instead of mixed candy

To spice up your granola, mix in some cranberries and dark chocolates. Instead of adding refined sugar, add in brown sugar. It is healthier and gives your granola a nice colour.
4. Oatmeal cookies instead of packaged biscuits

Homemade recipes always trumps store bought goodies. It’s also a lot of fun to tinker around in the kitchen.
5. Multigrain cracker sandwiches instead of cookies with cream

There are 200 calories in one serving of Oreo cookies. That means 30 minutes of jogging to burn that off. A better alternative would be to sandwich multigrain crackers with hummus, nut butters or put thin slices of cheese in between.
6. Applesauce instead of pudding

You can easily make your own applesauce by blending some apples together. You can also purchase the pure kind with no added sweetening.
Applesauce is has plenty of fiber. It is also good for the heart and a naturally sweet treat.
7. Real fruit smoothies instead of packet sugared juices

Most cordials that you buy from the store are packed full of artificial colourings and sweeteners. Why not make your own fruit smoothies instead?
You can create your own unique juice blend in a blender or a juicer. Try mixing and matching different ingredients to find that secret recipe.
8. Homemade Popsicles instead of ice cream

Another use for your homemade juice would be to make them into popsicles. All you need to do is to fill the Popsicle mold with your homemade juice and pop it into the freezer. Make sure to leave it there for about 30 minutes to freeze completely.
